All the whiles, I am focusing more on search traffic and believing that by researching well in keyword and dominating the first page ranking in google and yahoo, the traffic from search engine should be quite substantial.

I was thinking that perhaps the search traffic is long term and once I setup the seo, linking and more content to push it towards the 1st page of search engine, my traffic will increase a lot. However, perhaps, it is a mistake or it may always not like that. 

I recently learned that perhpas the referred traffic from articles submitted to directory, from web 2.0 marketing like myspace, facebook, squidoo, social bookmarking, blog catalog, mybloglog, twitter, forum may give even substancial increase in the traffic. This findings really surprise me. And I now start switching my marketing campaign towards more on this referred traffic.

Why I do so? After I find out there are some good points of referred traffic compared to search traffic.

• referred traffic is more targeted as the traffic have read your articles, your tweet or any piece of your info and willing to find out more from your sides.
• search engine always keep changing rules. Nobody know what is the exact rules today or tomorrow to keep it in the first page. The effort keep continues to change but is difficult to measure how effective it is. May be this week in position 1 and it may drop to page 2 or 3 in just 1-2 weeks time.
• Those traffic from search engine may be after visited your site once and no more come back again. But, the referred visitors may even subscribe your site rss or more possible back to your site.
• Referred traffic is more on long term basis as it will go viral also but the search traffic is temporary and it depends on your site ranking in the search engine.

However, I did not say that search engine traffic is not important. It is still essential in my marketing campaign but it is not my first focus. I will do mainly some seo at the beginning and do some backlinks continuously. But, I will put more effort in getting more acquitance in my social network, more friends in the same niche, sharing ideas, visit each other site and they are willing to visit you back.

Other than that, building links here is also even easier and more effective. I can search LSI related site and put a comment there or ask for link exchange. This kind of links are more link worthy and can increase my website authority in the niche I am targeting on.

Here is my view of point about referred traffic vs search traffic. I can also see more affiliate sales are from referred traffic compared to search traffic. Of course, the only thing for referred traffic is it may takes much longer time and it takes time to build up more relationship. However, thinking that the traffic is long term, I think it is still worth to invest more time in building up referred traffic.
